Hopefully, you and I will no longer feel behind on everything after we've gotten used to the daily schedule, and after doing a lot of the deeper cleaning required, we'll feel refreshed and ready to go out in the sun with our kids all summer long.
For me, this comes at a perfect time of year. Just before the kids get out of school for summer and while it's still raining off and on is a great time to complete the spring cleaning checklist and be all ready for summer.
I hope you jump on board with me as the next 2 weeks evolve into hopefully a more organized tidier and more manageable home and routine.
So here's how it's gonna work. I will write a blog for each day of the week for the next 2 weeks, except Sunday. Each daily project should take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. There will be 2 weekend projects, one for each saturday, that will take approximately 3 hours. We will do 1 project per day.
Don't forget that you will still need to do maintenance to keep each space looking great throughout each day or week. You will also need to continue to do all your regular chores such as dishes and laundry each day/week. If not, you and I will be in the same place at the end of the 2 weeks as we were at the beginning.
Now, down to the rules of housework. Housework will never be done, and you'll always feel like something is a mess, especially if you have kids or a husband. If you live alone, although housework is never done, you may actually get to a place where nothing will be a mess for a moment.
Those are the rules. I will go ahead now, in this post and give you a list of general supplies I use in just about every room of my home. You can modify this list as you see fit, but this way, if you're looking for something different, you might have some ideas. Also, if you have a great product that you can't live without, leave a comment and tell me. It may make my life easier too. Thanks!
- Kitchen Gloves (I have about 2 pair at all times)
- Baking Soda (buy the big box)
- Borax
- Salt (Also a great abrasive)
- Washing Soda
- Lemon Juice (freshens lots of stuff)
- Liquid and Bar Castile Soap
- Hydrogen Peroxide (kills bacteria)
- Tea Tree Oil (a natural disinfectant and pesticide)
- Dawn Dish Liquid
- Vinegar
- Vacuum
- Broom/Dustpan
- Washcloth and hand towel sized rags
- Sponge with a scrubby side
- Empty spray bottles (for mixing different cleaners)
- Bucket
So, the work begins tomorrow. Just remember, housework is never done, something will always be a mess, and take things one project, step, or day at a time.
Good Luck!
Kristin
Where do you buy castile soap? Is it found just about anywhere?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question! I purchase my castile soap from Market of Choice. It isn't sold just anywhere (I've never found it at wal-mart) but many grocery stores carry it on the laundry aisle or in with the bath soaps. If you can't find it in stores in your area, there's certainly tons of online resources that you can order from.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
