Jeans
My current sewing project is a pair of jeans, using Vogue 1034. I cut out a muslin and sewed it up. The size isn't too bad, but there are definitely some fitting issues. The back crotch is way short. Although maybe the real problem is that the front crotch is all wrong and pulls the back out of place. I feel like the seam where the two join is way too far forward. Alas, I cannot find anything on the subject of where this seam should fall. The front waistband is super high up, while the back is super low. I also need to make an adjustment for my upper thigh. This adjustment (if done as the pattern instructs) may help with the back crotch issue. Not sure though. I've pulled out my Fitting & Pattern Alteration book and will see what I can find in there.

Hi, I recently took a pants fitting course online. I've never made pants before and it helped me enormously. I've done 3 muslins, but not yet finished the final trousers. You can take a look on my blog at http://so-sew-easy.com/category/sewing/clothes/trousers/
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your jeans, interested to see how they turn out.
I've been contemplating this class at Craftsy. I will be signing up for it eventually, but I'm just not sure how these fitting techniques will apply to jeans. Jeans are very different in fit from trousers, typically. What do you think?
DeleteI just signed up for the Pants Fitting Techniques course for $18.99 (normally $47.99). I reckon it will help us all with fitting issues! I'm not sure about whether jeans are really that different to trousers - that's just adjusting ease and changing some minor design features (oh, and jeans seams are done differently but that might be for extra strength while we ride our horses (ha ha!)). I hope by doing the course that I can learn to alter ANY pants pattern to fit MY body
DeleteThat class is coming up at $49.99 on my computer and my iPad. :( I can't afford that price right now. I'm hoping there will be a sale soon! I have used my fitting book and made some changes already. Everything above the hipline is looking good. My biggest problem is the wrinkle right under the butt, but I guess that is normal with jeans? Then there are some problems with the legs. I don't love how they are hanging. I figure I need to get everything up around the waist and hips fixed before I work on that, though. I should really take pictures, but my husband isn't home and this natural denim is so very unflattering! At least I am making progress.
DeleteJeans are tough. Brave girl you are;)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Or maybe I'm just insane? LOL
